Glen Truswell former International 14 multiple World Champion and National Champion in both Merlin Rocket and RS Aero, has joined the IC fleet with his new M3 design tweaked to his own specification.
Glen has concentrated on getting more power from the rig using a teardrop section mast and having a means of over-rotating it to provide less turbulence and greater lift.
At the back end, Glens foiling rudder experience has been a great input allowing I14 experience and technology to be converted to the much smaller IC format. The extra lift generated by the rudder lifts the stern and cuts drag whilst also providing attitude control and significantly reduced pitching in a swell.
The M3 hull shape has proven itself as a fast design with its slippery lines and reduced wetted area. Glen has taken the basics but looked at how the rig and foils can be improved based on his extensive experience with the I14 and skills as a boat builder and designer.
With the restricted sailing in 2020, Glen was at least able to spend time perfecting the designs. Indications are that the additional power generated by the rig and reduced drag from the rudder has improved performance. 2021 will be the year where true comparisons can be drawn against the rest of the fleet.
